Understand the process

Through the years in service we have developed an efficent process to efectively maintain and restore exterior wood surfaces. The steps below explain in detail each part of the process. These steps apply to all types of wood surfaces like redwood decks, hardwood decks —that include IPE and other exotic woods— as well as teak furniture and shingle siding. Our trained technicians are skilled and apply their knowledge to provide high quality work.

Power-washing

Power-washing is the start of the restoration process it readys the wood for staining. Power-washing is important because it removes any existing stain as well as the grey surface layer of oxidation that accumulates through time from natural wood weathering and any wood blemishes. Another benefit from power-washing is that is removes debris from between the decking boards, which help prevent the growth of rot and fungus. Because power-washing uses only water it is harmless to surrouding vegetation. Occasionally we use a stain remover for stubborn to remove stain however this too is environmentally friendly.

Sanding

Sometimes decks need to be sanded. This is especially the case when the old stain is not removed completely with power-washing. However if the wood is rough and old, sanding is also good way to go. Sanding provides lots of benefits to wood. Because it returns the your deck to bare wood it ensures that the application of stain penetrates deeper providing even better protection against the elements. If your deck has been neglected for a long time sanding is recommended.

Staining

We finish off our process by applying an oil based stain to your exterior wood surface. We use two different oil based products and choose depending on the age of your exterior surface. With many product out there in the market it can be difficult to pick the right product. Luckily we got you covered and have narrowed it down to two. These are natural stains that leave your wood looking natural and let you see the grain of the wood. Only one coat is needed to protect your wood from the damaging factors that may harm your wood. The product are listed below.
